The Scheme provides contributing members with valuable benefits in all eventualities whilst working for Local Government. 

In order to qualify for benefits, you will normally require a minimum of two years Actual Service or have Transferred Service.

The main benefits provided by the Scheme are as follows:

Retirement

If you die 

  • a lump sum to provide immediate financial security for your family if you die while employed in local government and a member of the LGPS;
  • a pension for your spouse and children 

If you leave (with more than two years Pensionable Service or with Transferred Service)

  • a preserved pension and lump sum to be paid to you at Normal Retirement Age
