The South West Pension Funds have appointed Denise Le Gal as its Independent Chair of the £25 billion Brunel Pension Partnership Limited.
The Partnership is one of eight national pooled funds, and will oversee the investment of the majority of pension assets for Avon, Buckinghamshire, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Environment Agency, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Somerset, and Wiltshire Funds.
John Beesley, Leader of Bournemouth Unitary Council and Chair of the Dorset Pension Fund who has been chairing the Funds Shadow Operations Board, said “Denise brings significant experience of both the private and public sector investment and pensions industry. Her knowledge, enthusiasm and will to succeed will be a tremendous asset in shaping the Brunel Company.”
One of the first tasks for Denise will be to begin the recruitment of Brunel’s senior management team and Non-Executive Directors. The Chair and NEDs will oversee the implementation of strategy, shape the direction of the organisation and ensure it operates efficiently. The 10 South West organisations will nominate one shareholder representative to the Board, alongside two independent NEDs.
Denise said “I am delighted to be given this chance at the start of the company’s journey to shape it into one of the best pools, and I am excited at working with the 10 funds to deliver real efficiencies and improved returns to their half a million members”.
