We've signed the 2022 annual ‘Global Investor Statement to Governments on the Climate Crisis’

In April, Avon Pension Fund signed the 2022 annual ‘Global Investor Statement to Governments on the Climate Crisis’, alongside over 500 other investors managing nearly $39 trillion in AUM. This statement was made public on the IIGCC website yesterday, ahead of COP27 in Egypt in November.

Coordinated by the Investor Agenda (a common leadership agenda containing the IIGCC, UN-PRI and others), this statement brings together a regionally diverse body of global investors to urge governments to implement specific priority policy actions that will enable them to invest the trillions needed to respond to the climate crisis.

The key policy requests for 2022 are to;

  • Ensure government Nationally Determined Contributions for 2030 align with the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C, or to strengthen them before COP27
  • Implement domestic policies and take early action to ensure that 2030 greenhouse gas emissions are aligned with the goal of keeping global temperature rise to 1.5°C
  • Contribute to the reduction in non-carbon dioxide greenhouse gas emissions and support the effective implementation of the Global Methane Pledge
  • Build on the agreed outcomes of COP26, scale up the provision of climate finance from the public and the private sector, with a particular focus on the needs of developing countries.
  • Strengthen climate disclosures across the financial system
