LGPS opens to councillors and mayors in May 2026

2 April 2026

The UK government has confirmed that councillors and elected mayors in England will be eligible to join the LGPS from 11 May 2026. Joining the pension scheme will be voluntary, not automatic. Councillors and elected mayors will enrol into the scheme on an opt-in basis through the authority they serve. Information on how to do this will be published once it’s available.

New booking system launched for in person One Stop Shop appointments

Avon Pension Fund new member website and brand

Our old website had to be replaced. We decided to take the opportunity to make our website more user-friendly.   

We’ve designed this website to help members do more of the tasks they want to do online, making content easier to find and simpler to understand. 

Six pension funds invest £230 million in solar power

26 January 2024

The new investment forms part of the largest operational solar deal ever transacted in the UK. It involves the Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire LGPS Funds, who share a strong commitment to tackling climate change. The collaborative investment in south-west solar will generate around 196MW, enough to power nearly 70,000 homes.

Avon Pension Fund sets 2045 net zero goal

Avon Pension Fund has announced an ambitious new goal to be net zero across all its investments by 2045. The latest move builds on significant work already completed by the Fund to maximise the real-world impact of its £5.4 billion investment portfolio.

Our new £50 million commitment to local renewable infrastructure

In the latest step towards achieving our net zero goals, we’ve committed £50 million to a new renewables fund. The fund has been created specifically for a consortium of LGPS funds belonging to the Brunel Pension Partnership.
